Canoeing and Rowing Festival, Cardiff Bay, 24th and 25th June, 2006
This FREE event was one of the largest outdoor paddling events in the country. Over 15,000 people visited Cardiff Bay for this Festival weekend, and a high percentage paddled on the Bay itself. Families, and beginners interested in water sports were invited to 'Come and Try it' in the 20m canoe pool located in the centre of Roald Dahl Plass. Cardiff Harbour Authority provided free taster sessions for children as young as 3yrs old, who experienced the fun of canoeing, with qualified instructors. Those over 11yrs were be able to paddle out into the sheltered waters of the Bay, supervised in a variety of canoes and kayaks. For the more experienced paddlers, free hourly tuition was available for those wanting to sharpen their open canoe and kayaking skills.
